Oshoala Scores, Calls for Release of Kidnapped Children as Super Falcons Defeat Senegal in Ikenne

Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala combined football excellence with a strong social message as the Super Falcons defeated Senegal 2-1 in an international friendly match played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State on Friday.

The experienced forward opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 32nd minute after converting a penalty she won herself against the Lionesses of Senegal.

However, it was her celebration that quickly became the major talking point of the encounter. Moments after scoring, Oshoala displayed a wristband carrying the messages “Bring Back Our Children” and “Save The Teachers,” drawing attention to the growing concerns over insecurity, school abductions, and the welfare of teachers in Nigeria.

Fans and observers praised the former African Women’s Player of the Year for using her platform to advocate for children’s education and safety beyond the football pitch.

The Super Falcons extended their lead before halftime through Toni Payne, who calmly finished from close range to give Nigeria a comfortable advantage heading into the break.

Senegal fought back in the second half and reduced the deficit late on through Sokhna Nogaye, but the Nigerian side remained composed to secure the 2-1 victory in front of their supporters in Ikenne.

The friendly match serves as part of the Super Falcons’ preparations for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria will aim to reclaim continental glory.

While the result boosted confidence within the squad, Oshoala’s emotional message after scoring added deeper significance to the occasion, once again showing her commitment to causes affecting young people and education in Nigeria.

The Super Falcons star continues to make an impact both on and off the field — inspiring with goals and speaking up for important national issues.
