Football commentator, social critic, and football aficionado Dr. Martin Morgan has called for stricter discipline within the Super Falcons’ camp following Nigeria’s shocking 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Speaking with Sportbeat.ng, Morgan described the loss as a major wake-up call for both the players and the coaching staff, insisting that the team’s focus must now shift entirely to achieving its mission of defending Nigeria’s continental reputation.
According to him, the Super Falcons need a firm and authoritative camp commandant capable of enforcing discipline and ensuring the players remain fully concentrated throughout the tournament.
“The Falcons need to have a convincing Camp Commandant. This defeat is a wake-up call to both the players and the staff to understand that they are on a mission,” Morgan said.
He recommended that players’ mobile phones should be collected for the duration of the competition to reduce distractions, adding that all non-essential social media activity should be suspended.
“First of all, all the players’ phones should be collected by the Camp Commandant. There should be no social media content of any form during the tournament except official publications from the team,” he stated.
Morgan also urged the team management to restrict media engagements, avoid unnecessary interviews, and establish a structured daily routine balancing training and leisure.
He further advocated banning members of the press and independent online content creators from attending training sessions and players’ relaxation periods, arguing that such measures would help eliminate distractions and allow the team to concentrate on its campaign.
The Super Falcons, who entered Morocco as defending champions and one of the tournament favorites, now face mounting pressure to respond positively in their remaining group-stage matches after suffering one of the biggest upsets in WAFCON history against Malawi.
