The victory capped off one of the most dramatic Finals series in recent history, with every game remaining within five points during the closing five minutes.
Despite trailing by double digits in all four of their victories, the Knicks consistently produced late-game comebacks to overpower the youthful Spurs side.
Brunson once again delivered in clutch moments, scoring the decisive basket with just over a minute remaining after driving past Spurs rookie for a floating jumper that gave New York the lead for good.
The Knicks star finished the Finals as the leading clutch scorer with 22 points in late-game situations and was deservedly named Finals MVP after guiding his team through a fiercely contested series.
Speaking after the historic triumph, Knicks coach praised his captain’s leadership and composure.
“He is a freaking 1A. He is an MVP candidate,” Brown said.
