LASU Star Kehinde Hamzat Signs First Professional Contract in Turkey After Unitecol Cup Success
Lagos State University (LASU) graduate Kehinde Hamzat has taken the next major step in his football career after signing his first professional contract with Turkish side Fişekspor.
Hamzat’s move to Turkey comes after an impressive run at the Unitecol Cup, where he represented LASU in the inaugural edition in 2025 and the second edition in 2026.
The winger was part of the LASU team that won the maiden Unitecol Cup at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in 2025, before helping the university side finish as runners-up at the second edition held at the University of Lagos a few months ago.
Wearing the No. 11 shirt in both editions, Hamzat showcased his pace, close control and dribbling ability, establishing himself as one of LASU’s notable attacking players in the competition.
He scored in LASU’s emphatic 6-0 victory over FCE Akoka in the second group game of the 2025 tournament, contributing to the team’s successful campaign. Across his Unitecol Cup appearances, he registered one goal and two assists.
His progression from the university competition to professional football in Turkey represents a significant milestone in his career and further underlines the potential of the Unitecol Cup as a platform for identifying and promoting emerging talents.
Organised by 54footballx, the competition was established with the vision of providing grassroots footballers in Nigerian higher institutions with an avenue to showcase their abilities, gain exposure and attract opportunities beyond the country.
Hamzat’s transfer to Fişekspor is therefore a notable achievement not only for the player but also for the organisers and the broader vision behind the Unitecol Cup.
With his first professional contract now secured, Hamzat will look to build on his university football experience as he begins a new chapter of his career in Turkey.
The Unitecol Cup organisers congratulated the young player on the move and wished him success as he continues his professional journey.
From the Unitecol Cup to Turkey — Kehinde Hamzat’s journey is another reminder of the opportunities that can emerge when young players are given the right platform to showcase their talent.
