The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has committed ₦6 million to support the 10th anniversary edition of the Athletic Heat Meet, scheduled to hold today, Saturday, November 7, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.

The financial intervention is aimed at rewarding outstanding performances and supporting the successful organisation of the landmark athletics competition.

Under the arrangement, Olopade has earmarked ₦4 million as prize money for winners in the throwing events, with ₦500,000 allocated to the winner of each of the eight events. An additional ₦2 million has been committed towards the competition’s logistics.

The support represents a significant boost for the anniversary edition, which is expected to attract established Nigerian athletes, emerging talents and key stakeholders in the athletics community.

Athletic Heat Chief Executive Officer, Ese Oguma, welcomed the gesture, expressing appreciation to Olopade for his support and commitment to the development of sports in Nigeria.

Oguma noted that backing from sports administrators and stakeholders remains vital to improving competition standards, providing meaningful financial incentives for athletes and creating more opportunities for emerging talents to showcase their abilities.

The 10th anniversary edition marks a significant milestone for Athletic Heat, which has continued to provide a competitive platform for athletes to test their abilities, gain recognition and pursue excellence in athletics.

With Olopade’s intervention adding to the incentives on offer, the Lagos meet is set to provide an added attraction for athletes competing for honours at the anniversary celebration.
