Shooting Stars have parted ways with head coach Nurudeen Aweroro just weeks after he guided the club to a historic third-place finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The Oluyole Warriors announced the decision on Sunday, confirming that Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal have left the club following a mutual agreement.
The three members of the technical team reached an amicable decision with the club to end their respective contracts ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Aweroro’s departure comes after just one season in charge of Shooting Stars.
The coach took over at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign and delivered one of the club’s best league campaigns in recent years.
His third-place finish secured Shooting Stars a return to CAF Confederation Cup football and represented their best NPFL position in more than a decade.
Despite the success, the club has opted for a change in the technical department as preparations intensify for a demanding new campaign.
Shooting Stars move to avoid coaching vacuum
Shooting Stars have already made arrangements to ensure the team’s preparations are not disrupted by the coaching change.
The club confirmed that its remaining assistant coaches will take charge of the Technical Department on an interim basis pending the appointment of a new substantive head coach.
The Ibadan club said it will announce further developments concerning the appointment in due course.
Shooting Stars also expressed appreciation to Aweroro, Tamuno and Lawal for their commitment, professionalism and contributions to the club.
The club specifically acknowledged their role in securing the third-place finish and continental qualification.
The incoming coach will now inherit a Shooting Stars side facing a two major challenges next season, as the club set to compete in both the NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup.
