NANPF Targets January for 7th Mid-Season Club Captains, Players’ Seminar

The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) has commenced preparations for the seventh edition of its Mid-Season Club Captains and Players’ Seminar for the 2026/2027 football season, with the virtual event targeted for January 2027.

The seminar, themed “Securing Real Status for Professional Footballers in Nigeria,” will bring together club captains and players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL) and Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

According to the NANPF Human Capacity Building Department, the programme will feature local and international experts in football business, sports law and sports administration, focusing on issues affecting players’ professional careers, welfare and long-term financial security.

To accommodate participants across the three leagues, the online seminar will be conducted in separate batches for NPFL, NNL and NWFL players.

Key areas of discussion will include retirement and investment planning, professional structures for players’ athletic, social and financial development, improved relationships between players, clubs and league organisers, and the fundamentals of professional football contracts.

The programme will also examine ways to strengthen contractual stability and protect the professional and social dignity of Nigerian footballers.

The seventh edition builds on previous efforts by the players’ union to equip footballers with essential knowledge beyond their on-field responsibilities.

While last season’s seminar focused on life skills education beyond football training, the forthcoming edition will place greater emphasis on customised retirement schemes, contract negotiations, legal frameworks and developments in sports law.

The initiative reflects the growing need for professional footballers to understand their rights, manage their earnings effectively and prepare for life after active competition.

Beyond the technical aspects of football, NANPF believes players must be equipped to navigate the business and legal dimensions of their careers, particularly in an environment where contractual disputes, financial insecurity and post-retirement challenges remain important concerns.

The seminar is also expected to provide an interactive platform for players to exchange experiences, engage experts and explore practical solutions to challenges confronting professional football in Nigeria.

By bringing together players from the men’s and women’s leagues, the programme aims to promote greater awareness of professional standards, welfare protection and career development across the domestic game.

Further details, including the confirmed dates, registration procedures and lineup of speakers, will be announced by NANPF in due course.
