AbdulRazak Questions NPFL Double Standards Over Katsina United Debt Payment Delay Weeks After Kano Pillars’ Sponsorship Deduction Pays Ogbonna

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has come under scrutiny over the consistency of its enforcement of Players Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC) decisions, with former Katsina United player Aliyu AbdulRazak questioning why his outstanding ₦3.2 million remains unpaid after the league facilitated payment of Kano Pillars’ debt to Chukwuebuka Ogbonna.

The NPFL recently deducted ₦4.5 million from Kano Pillars’ EuroMatch sponsorship entitlement to settle the outstanding portion of a ₦5 million award to Ogbenna, demonstrating its capacity to enforce financial obligations against clubs.

AbdulRazak, who was awarded ₦7.2 million against Katsina United by the NFF PSAC on December 5, 2025, said the club had paid ₦4 million but was yet to settle the remaining ₦3.2 million despite not entering any installment payment agreement with the club.

He claimed he had been waiting for the NPFL to contact him for his bank details to facilitate payment but had received no such communication.

“I was waiting and waiting for the NPFL to call me to send my account number, but I am still waiting. If Ogbonna can be paid, I see no reason why I should not also be paid through a deduction from Katsina United’s sponsorship money,” AbdulRazak told Sportsbeat.

The former player expressed concern over the delay, alleging that the apparent difference in the handling of the two cases raised questions about fairness in the league’s enforcement process.

“I cannot understand the delay. It seems like selective justice, possibly influenced by a powerful figure. I have followed the proper channels and have the judgement papers in my favour,” he said.

“I call on the NPFL to help do the right thing.”

AbdulRazak’s case raises questions about the consistency of enforcement, particularly after the league’s intervention secured Ogbonna’s outstanding payment directly from Kano Pillars’ sponsorship entitlement.

While the circumstances of the two cases may differ, the NPFL faces calls to clarify the status of AbdulRazak’s award and explain the steps being taken to recover his outstanding entitlement.

The league’s intervention in Ogbonna’s case demonstrates that direct payment from a club’s sponsorship entitlement can be an effective enforcement mechanism where applicable. AbdulRazak is seeking similar intervention to resolve his dispute with Katsina United.

For the former player, the demand is simple: enforce the ruling by restricting Katsina United from using newly registered players, recover the outstanding ₦3.2 million and ensure that contractual rights receive equal attention.
