Mbappé Scores on 100th Champions League Appearance as Real Madrid Stun Roma, Breaks Messi Record
Kylian Mbappé marked his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance with a goal as Real Madrid staged a dramatic comeback to defeat AS Roma 4-3 on Wednesday, becoming the youngest player to reach the milestone and breaking Lionel Messi’s record.
Aged 27 years and 298 days, the French forward surpassed Messi, who was 28 years and 84 days old when he made his 100th Champions League appearance in September 2015.
Mbappé celebrated the landmark by scoring Real Madrid’s equaliser at the Stadio Olimpico, taking his Champions League tally to 72 goals in 100 appearances.
Roma had taken the lead through Marten de Roon before Mbappé restored parity. The hosts subsequently struck twice through Donyell Malen to establish a 3-1 advantage, leaving Madrid facing a difficult task.
However, the Spanish giants mounted a remarkable late rally. Carlos Espi reduced the deficit before Endrick equalised, while Antonio Rüdiger completed the turnaround in the 90th minute to secure a memorable 4-3 victory for the visitors.
The goal also moved Mbappé ahead of former Real Madrid striker Raúl González into fifth place on the Champions League’s all-time scoring list.
Mbappé made his Champions League debut for Monaco as a 17-year-old in September 2016. He recorded six goals in nine appearances for the French club before scoring 42 goals in 64 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain.
Since joining Real Madrid, the forward has continued his prolific scoring form, registering 24 goals in his first 27 Champions League appearances for the Spanish giants.
The historic milestone further strengthens Mbappé’s growing legacy in European football, combining individual achievement with a dramatic victory that underlined Real Madrid’s resilience on the continental stage.
