Great Britain’s Josh Kerr produced one of the greatest performances in athletics history by breaking the long-standing men’s mile world record at the 2026 Novuna London Athletics Meet, while Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi continued his impressive season with victory in the men’s 100 metres.


Kerr thrilled the home crowd at the London Stadium by clocking 3:42.66, erasing the 27-year-old world record previously held by Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj.

The Scottish star also passed the 1500m mark in 3:27.62, faster than his own British record, capping a remarkable evening of world-class athletics.

For Nigeria, Kanyinsola Ajayi delivered another outstanding performance, winning the men’s 100m in 9.84 seconds, equalling his personal best and Nigerian record.

Ajayi edged Jamaica’s world champion Oblique Seville (9.87s) to claim one of the biggest victories of his career and strengthen his Diamond League title ambitions.

Olympic champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia continued her dominance by winning the women’s 200m in a meeting record of 21.66 seconds, finishing ahead of American world champion Gabby Thomas.

Home favourite Keely Hodgkinson delighted British fans with victory in the women’s 800m, clocking 1:56.21, while Norway’s Karsten Warholm stormed to a world-leading and meeting-record 46.61 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles.

Dominican Republic’s Marileidy Paulino dominated the women’s 400m in 48.97 seconds, while American Brandon Miller produced a surprise victory in the men’s 800m with a personal best 1:42.19, defeating Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

In the men’s 400m, Olympic champion Rai Benjamin impressed with a personal best 44.05 seconds, while Australia’s Jessica Hull won the women’s 3000m in 8:24.69.

In the field events, Sam Kendricks claimed the men’s pole vault on countback after clearing 5.95m, with world record holder Armand “Mondo” Duplantis withdrawing because of a left thigh injury.

American Cierra Jackson broke the Diamond League record in the women’s discus with a massive 71.72m throw, while Germany’s Malaika Mihambo won the women’s long jump with 7.05m.

Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers completed the list of winners by taking the women’s high jump on countback after clearing a world-leading 2.01m, matching Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
