FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles Crash Out of Top 5 in Africa, Drops Four Places
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suffered a significant slide in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, dropping four places to 30th in the world and sixth in Africa.
The October ranking, officially released by FIFA on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, comes after a difficult international window for Éric Chelle’s side, who recorded a win, a defeat and a draw in three matches.
Nigeria had occupied 26th position globally and fourth in Africa in the previous ranking but have now fallen behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire on the continent.
The Super Eagles have 1,567.97 points, according to the latest ranking.
Nigeria opened the recent international window with a 2–1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring their first senior international goals.
However, the positive start was followed by a damaging 3–0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau.
Nigeria subsequently ended the window with a 3–3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday, October 6.
The results were not enough to prevent the Super Eagles from losing four places globally and two positions in the African ranking.
Morocco Lead Africa
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation and have climbed to seventh in the world with 1,805.34 points.
Senegal are second in Africa and 18th globally, followed by Egypt in 25th, Algeria in 28th and Côte d’Ivoire in 29th.
Nigeria complete Africa’s top six.
The African top 10 is completed by DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali and Tunisia.
Spain Extend Lead
At the summit of the global ranking, Spain remain world number one and have extended their advantage after winning all four of their recent UEFA Nations League matches.
Argentina remain second, with France third and England fourth.
Portugal were the biggest movers among the top 10, climbing two places to fifth, while Brazil dropped to sixth and Morocco slipped to seventh.
Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico complete the global top 10.
The latest FIFA update incorporated 338 men’s international matches played since the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be released on November 18, 2026.
