Daniel Daga Cleared of Sexual Assault Charges as Molde FK Lifts Suspension With Immediate Effect
Nigerian midfielder Daniel Daga has been cleared of sexual assault charges after a Norwegian appeal court unanimously overturned his previous conviction, paving the way for his immediate return to football.
The Frostating Court of Appeal delivered its verdict on Thursday, July 2, 2026, reversing a March 2026 ruling by a lower court that had sentenced the 19-year-old to six months in prison over allegations arising from an incident involving an unnamed woman in April 2025.
Daga consistently maintained throughout the case that the sexual encounter was consensual.
The appeal court agreed, acquitting the former Flying Eagles midfielder of all charges and bringing the legal proceedings to an end.
Following the verdict, Molde FK announced that it has lifted Daga’s suspension with immediate effect.
The club had sidelined the Nigerian from all football-related activities, including training and matches, after his initial conviction, resulting in an absence of nearly 11 months.
In an official statement, Molde confirmed that Daga is free to resume football activities immediately once the judgment becomes legally final, adding that he is expected to rejoin the first-team squad.
The ruling represents a major boost for the teenager, whose promising career was abruptly halted by the legal case.
Before his suspension, Daga was regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest midfield prospects after impressing with the Flying Eagles and earning a move to Norway.
His acquittal not only clears his name but also revives hopes of reigniting his club career with Molde and eventually returning to Nigeria’s national team setup.
