The 2026 CAF Awards preparations have moved up a gear as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspects the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts Theatre in Lagos.
The CAF delegation was received by officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission during an inspection visit to the proposed venue ahead of the awards.
The visit allowed CAF officials to assess the facility and review preparations for an event expected to attract some of the biggest names in African football.
Governor Sanwo-Olu confirmed the inspection through his verified social media handles, stressing the importance of ensuring that every detail is properly addressed.
“Earlier today, officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission received the Confederation of African Football team in Lagos for their inspection visit ahead of the 2026 CAF Awards,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“We guided them through the venue and gathered their feedback. Hosting an event of this scale means every single detail counts and our team is working hard behind the scenes to make sure we get it right.
“Lagos is ready and we look forward to putting on a brilliant show for African football.”
The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts Theatre, formerly the National Arts Theatre, is located at Orile-Iganmu in Lagos and is set to host the high-profile football awards ceremony.
The CAF Awards bring together leading African footballers, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders to celebrate outstanding achievements across the continent.
The inspection is another major step in Lagos’ preparations to stage the event, with the state government determined to deliver a ceremony that matches the global standards associated with the CAF Awards.
Lagos has increasingly positioned itself as a leading destination for major sporting and entertainment events, and the hosting of the 2026 CAF Awards is expected to further strengthen the city’s profile on the African sporting calendar.
With preparations gathering momentum, all attention will now turn to the final arrangements as Lagos gets set to welcome the African football family for what promises to be a memorable night of celebration.
