Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna has taken another step towards his return to competitive football after resuming training with Brighton & Hove Albion following an extended spell on the sidelines.
The 19-year-old was back on the training pitch on Tuesday as Brighton prepared for Thursday’s UEFA Conference League encounter against Getafe in Spain. However, his return to training is not expected to translate into immediate match involvement, with the Nigerian still listed among the club’s injury absentees.
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler had previously confirmed Yohanna’s return to training, describing the progress made by players recovering from lengthy injury spells as an encouraging development.
The winger has endured a frustrating start to life at the Amex Stadium since joining Brighton from Swedish side AIK during the summer transfer window.
Yohanna has made just three appearances for the Seagulls, accumulating limited playing time before fitness problems interrupted his progress. His absence also ruled him out of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The former AIK forward arrived in England with considerable expectations after an impressive spell in Sweden, where his performances attracted interest from several European clubs.
His return to training represents an important milestone, although Brighton are expected to manage his recovery carefully rather than rush him back into competitive action.
Brighton face Getafe on Thursday, November 5, at the Coliseum in Madrid, with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 p.m. UK time (9:00 p.m. Nigerian time).
For Yohanna, the immediate priority remains regaining full fitness and building the match sharpness required to compete for a regular place in Hürzeler’s squad.
His recovery will be closely followed in Nigeria as the young winger looks to overcome his injury setbacks and fulfil his potential in English football.
