World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26: Three Key Battles to Watch on Day Three

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will enter day three on Friday, August 7, with seven finals scheduled at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, as the world’s leading young athletes continue their fight for global titles.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will feature a highly anticipated clash in the men’s 400m, with American stars Jayden Deleon and Quincy Wilson set to renew their rivalry.

Deleon stunned Wilson at the US U20 Championships in June by clocking 44.52, the second-fastest 400m time ever recorded by a high school athlete, and both athletes will now battle for the world U20 title.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will also showcase South Africa’s Leendert Koekemoer in the men’s 400m.

Koekemoer brings international experience to the event after helping South Africa secure a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the Tokyo World Championships last year.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will provide another exciting 400m contest in the women’s event, where American Ataja Stephane-Vazquez will aim to end the United States’ long wait for the title.

Stephane-Vazquez will attempt to become the first American women’s 400m world U20 champion since Kendall Baisden won the title at Hayward Field in 2014.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 women’s 400m final will also feature American Clara Adams, who finished behind Stephane-Vazquez at the US U20 Championships in Eugene. Poland’s Anastazja Kuś, a European U20 bronze medallist, and Guyana’s Tianna Springer will add further competition to the medal race.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will begin the men’s decathlon on day three, with athletes competing in the first half of the demanding 10-event competition.

Sweden’s Liam Belo da Silva leads the entries with a 7981-point personal best as he targets his country’s first-ever world U20 decathlon title.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 decathlon will also feature France’s Mael-Bephassou Lannurien, South Africa’s Daniel von der Heyden and Greece’s Nikolaos Kosmopoulos.

American duo Brody Foster and Darius Jones will also compete after finishing first and second respectively at the US U20 Championships with scores of 7604 and 7547 points.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 will deliver two major men’s throwing finals, with the hammer and javelin competitions set to produce another battle for gold.

China’s Chen Jiawei enters the hammer final as the leading contender after establishing a world U20 lead of 80.39m during the opening day.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 men’s hammer final will see Chen face Poland’s Jan Delewski and Cyprus’ Alexandros Ghamrawi.

Delewski owns a personal best of 77.57m, while Ghamrawi will try to keep the world U20 title in Cyprus after compatriot Iosif Kesidis won the event in Lima in 2024.

The World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 men’s javelin final will also attract attention after Jan-Hendrik Heymans dominated qualifying with a 76.02m automatic qualifying throw.

India’s Ashish Yadav, who set a personal best of 74.49m in March, and Poland’s Aleksander Wojna will challenge Heymans for the medals.

With seven finals on the schedule, the World Athletics U20 Championships Oregon 26 promises another action-packed day at Hayward Field, with the 400m showdowns, decathlon and throwing finals among the events expected to provide some of Friday’s biggest moments.
