‘We’ve Seen Diamonds’: European Scouts Impressed as CV Sports, Myron Scouting Programme Uncovers Exciting New Football Talents in Lagos

CV Sports Management and Myron Sports Lagos Football Scouting Programme has provided a fresh pathway for emerging Nigerian footballers to attract international opportunities, with visiting European Sporting Directors and scouts expressing strong satisfaction with the quality of talent discovered during a three-day exercise in Lagos.

Held from October 29 to 31 at the Inspire Football Pitch, Cappa, Oshodi, the programme brought together players from 12 football clubs across different parts of Nigeria, offering them an opportunity to showcase their abilities before international scouts and sporting directors.

Speaking to Sportsbeat.ng, CV Sports Director and FIFA-licensed football agent, Ademola Olatunbosun, said the initiative was conceived to address the financial and logistical barriers that often prevent talented Nigerian footballers from accessing opportunities with clubs abroad.

He explained that bringing international scouts to Nigeria provides a more accessible alternative to the expensive process of sponsoring individual players for overseas trials.

“Our mission and vision for this programme is to create opportunities for our young players to showcase their talents internationally. Taking players abroad for trials is very expensive, and sponsoring even one player can be financially demanding.

“We believe it is easier to bring professional scouts from abroad to Nigeria and invite clubs to showcase their players. That is the mission behind this initiative,” Ademola said.

He disclosed that the organisers intend to make the scouting programme a regular feature, with plans to stage two or three editions annually and extend its reach beyond Lagos to other parts of the country.

Abuja and other regions are being considered for future editions as CV Sports and Myron Sports work towards establishing a broader talent identification network.

Ademola expressed confidence in the depth of football talent in Nigeria, describing initiatives of this nature as essential to helping promising players progress beyond grassroots and domestic football.

“We have abundant talents here, and we are confident that programmes like this will provide the pathway for them to take their careers to another level and fulfil their football dreams,” he added.

The Lagos edition attracted international representatives from Czech, Latvia and Serbia, including sporting directors with scouting responsibilities for clubs in Europe.

Among the visiting officials was a Sporting Director from a Latvian club.

The official was particularly impressed by the standard of players on display.

He described the three-day exercise as an impressive scouting experience, admitting that the abundance of promising prospects had made the selection process challenging.

“Those three days have been amazing. We have seen massive talents, so many diamonds, and for us, the most difficult thing now is choosing the best because there are so many options in almost every position,” he told Sportsbeat.ng.

He revealed that some of the Nigerian players identified during the programme could be invited to Latvia for further assessment, with the club keen to explore opportunities to bring selected prospects into its football structure.

The sporting director also disclosed that he had identified potential recruits in several positions, singling out two or three players as particularly exciting prospects with the potential to develop into future stars in European football.

“For me, the most important criterion is knowing the positions where I need good players. Basically, I have found somebody for myself and my team in almost every position.

“I think at least two or three talents could become future stars in a very good league in Europe,” he said.

Impressed by the experience, the Latvian representative also expressed his willingness to return for subsequent editions, revealing that he had indicated interest in attending another scouting exercise, including a proposed edition in Abuja.

The positive assessment from the visiting officials represents an encouraging development for the participating players, particularly those seeking opportunities to advance their careers beyond Nigeria.

Also speaking to Sports Sportsbeat.ng, Leader of the delegation and Managing Partner of Myron Sports, FIFA Licensed Football Agent Mr. Eddie Iseri Ogbemudia commended the invited Sporting Directors and scouts for their professionalism during the tournament.

“I really want to appreciate my guests for honouring the invitation to participate in this edition of the CV Sports Management/Myron Sports Scouting tournament. I must appreciate all the directors of CV Sports Management for making this happen, special thanks to member of staff of Myron Sports who worked 24hours for the success of the tournament. In the coming days we are expecting feedbacks on the next steps for the selected players to actualise their dreams of playing professional football in Europe.”

With plans to expand the programme to other cities, CV Sports and Myron Sports are seeking to establish a sustainable platform that connects emerging Nigerian footballers with professional clubs and development opportunities in Europe.

For many young players who lack the financial resources to pursue trials abroad independently, the initiative offers a potentially valuable route to international exposure, professional assessment and career progression.
