WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Get Massive Boost as NSC Promises $5,000 for Every Group-Stage Goal, Hands Over House Documents
Nigeria’s bid to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown has received a major lift after the National Sports Commission (NSC) unveiled an attractive reward package for the Super Falcons ahead of the tournament in Morocco.
In a move designed to spur the nine-time African champions to greater heights, NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko announced that the Federal Government will pay the team $5,000 for every goal scored during the group stage of the 2026 WAFCON.
The performance-based incentive comes as the Super Falcons embark on another quest for a record-extending 11th continental title, while also targeting qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Beyond the financial motivation, the Federal Government also fulfilled an earlier promise made to the players following their previous WAFCON success.
Dikko, accompanied by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, presented the players with their long-awaited house ownership documents during a ceremony in Rabat on Tuesday.
The gesture underscores the government’s renewed commitment to rewarding outstanding performances by Nigerian athletes and encouraging sustained excellence on the international stage.
With extra financial incentives now attached to every group-stage goal, the stakes have been raised for Justine Madugu’s side as they begin their title defence.
The Super Falcons open their Group C campaign against Malawi on Tuesday evening, aiming to make an early statement in Morocco and take another step towards an unprecedented 11th WAFCON crown.
