Ugochukwu Turns Attention to Formula 2 After Historic Formula 3 Triumph

Nigerian-American teenager Ugo Ugochukwu has set his sights on Formula 2 after completing a historic 2026 FIA Formula 3 championship campaign in Madrid, Spain.

The 19-year-old capped a remarkable season by finishing second in Sunday’s final race, a result that was enough to secure the championship with 159 points, 14 ahead of British rival Freddie Slater.

Driving for Campos Racing, Ugochukwu maintained his composure under pressure in the decisive race as Tuukka Taponen claimed victory, while the Nigerian-American secured the points needed to seal the title.

The championship was Ugochukwu’s “main goal” for the season, and he admitted that it was an achievement he was determined to accomplish.

“It’s something I really, really wanted to get done,” Ugochukwu said after securing the title.

Having achieved his primary target, the teenager is now preparing for the next major step in his career, with Formula 2 firmly in his sights.

Ugochukwu sees the move to Formula 2 as the logical progression in his development and an important stage on his long-term journey towards Formula 1.

“It’s a great and important step for what comes next,” he said, reflecting on the significance of his championship success.

However, the teenager is keen to savour his Formula 3 triumph before turning his full attention to the challenges ahead.

The 2026 title also represents a historic achievement, with Ugochukwu becoming the first American driver to win the FIA Formula 3 championship.

His success further underlines his rapid rise through the junior single-seater ranks and strengthens expectations surrounding his ambition to eventually reach the Formula 1 grid.

For now, Ugochukwu can celebrate a championship season that delivered his biggest career milestone yet, before beginning preparations for the demanding Formula 2 challenge that awaits.
