Sorry Tunisia Exits FIFA World Cup 2026 After Rampant Japan Dominant Display

Tunisia’s FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign came to a disappointing end on Sunday after a ruthless Japan side cruised to a 4-0 victory in their Group F clash, making the North Africans the first African nation to be eliminated from the tournament.

Having already suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Sweden in their opening match, Tunisia needed a positive result to keep their hopes alive. Instead, they were overwhelmed by a clinical Japanese team that exposed their defensive frailties and left them with two defeats from two matches.

Japan wasted little time asserting their authority, taking the lead after just four minutes through Daichi Kamada.

The early breakthrough unsettled Tunisia, who struggled to gain a foothold in the contest as the Samurai Blue dictated the tempo with quick passing and intelligent movement.

The Asian giants doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when Ayase Ueda found space on the edge of the area and fired home to put Japan firmly in control before halftime.

Tunisia showed greater urgency after the break but lacked the cutting edge required to trouble the Japanese defence. Their frustrations grew as Junya Ito added a third goal in the 69th minute, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

Ueda then completed his brace seven minutes from full time with a well-taken header, capping a dominant Japanese performance and sealing a comprehensive 4-0 triumph.

The defeat marked a disappointing start for newly appointed coach Herve Renard, who took charge following the dismissal of Sabri Lamouchi after Tunisia’s opening-day collapse against Sweden.

Renard was unable to inspire an immediate turnaround as the Eagles of Carthage conceded four more goals and failed to register a meaningful attacking threat.

Tunisia have now shipped nine goals in just two matches while scoring only once, highlighting the struggles that have plagued their campaign. With one group match remaining, they are mathematically out of contention for a place in the Round of 32.

For Japan, the emphatic victory strengthens their qualification hopes as they move level on points with Group F leaders Netherlands heading into the final round of fixtures. The Samurai Blue will face Sweden in a decisive encounter, while Tunisia will play for pride against the Netherlands.

The result extends Tunisia’s long wait for a breakthrough on football’s biggest stage, with another World Cup ending before the knockout rounds begin.
