Six Super Falcons Stars Feature as UEFA Women’s Champions League Matchday 1 Ends

Six Super Falcons stars were in action as the opening matchday of the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League league stage concluded across Europe.

Oluwatosin Demehin, Rasheedat Ajibade, Jennifer Echegini, Joy Omewa Ogochukwu, Shukurat Damilola Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide all featured for their respective clubs, providing a strong Nigerian presence in Europe’s premier women’s club competition.

Demehin started for Benfica Women in their impressive 2-1 away victory over Juventus Women in Turin.

The Super Falcons defender was booked during the encounter before being substituted at half-time, while compatriot Flourish Sabastine remained an unused substitute as Benfica secured all three points.

In Madrid, Ajibade played the full 90 minutes for Paris Saint-Germain Women in their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid.

Echegini also featured for PSG and was substituted in the 82nd minute as the French side returned from Spain with a point.

Ogochukwu was introduced in the 82nd minute for BK Häcken but could not help the Swedish side avoid a 1-0 home defeat to Inter Milan.

In Belgium, Oladipo completed the full match for AS Roma Women in their goalless draw against OH Leuven, while Babajide came on at half-time as Roma were held to a point.

The opening round also produced several eye-catching results, with holders Barcelona recovering from an early setback to defeat Paris FC 5-2.

Ewa Pajor scored twice for Barcelona, while OL Lyonnes recorded the biggest victory of the matchday with an emphatic 8-0 demolition of Servette.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored a hat-trick for the French side, with Melchie Dumornay adding two goals.

Chelsea Women, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Austria Wien, while Arsenal edged HB Køge by the same scoreline.

Bayern Munich and Manchester City played out a 2-2 draw, while Inter Milan defeated Häcken 1-0 and Benfica secured a notable away win at Juventus.

The performances of the six Super Falcons stars underline the growing Nigerian presence in the league stage of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, with the competition now moving towards Matchday 2.
