Victor Osimhen has joined Nigerian compatriot Gift Orban and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah at the top of the Turkish Süper Lig scoring chart after his brace inspired Galatasaray to a 2-1 Istanbul derby victory over Fenerbahçe.
The three African forwards have scored eight goals each in the 2026/27 campaign, according to the latest available league statistics, setting up a closely contested race for the Golden Boot.
Osimhen reached the joint-leading mark with his decisive performance against Fenerbahçe on Monday, October 26, at RAMS Park, where Galatasaray secured all three points in one of Turkish football’s fiercest rivalries.
Osimhen Fires Galatasaray to Derby Victory
The Super Eagles striker opened the scoring in the 29th minute after combining with Barış Alper Yılmaz before doubling Galatasaray’s advantage in the 44th minute.
Osimhen’s second goal came after Davinson Sánchez sent the ball back towards goal following a long throw-in and a clearance attempt by Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Ederson. The Nigerian forward headed home to give the hosts a two-goal cushion at half-time.
Fenerbahçe reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute through İrfan Can Kahveci, who converted Oğuz Aydın’s pass with an acrobatic finish.
Despite late pressure from their visitors, Galatasaray held on for a 2-1 victory that restored their position at the top of the league table.
The brace took Osimhen’s reported league tally to eight goals, placing him alongside Orban and Salah in the race for the individual award.
Orban and Salah Complete African Trio
Orban has also enjoyed a productive campaign with Amedspor, while Salah has been among the leading scorers for Trabzonspor.
Both forwards have eight goals, matching Osimhen’s tally after the conclusion of the latest round of fixtures.
The statistics make the three players joint leaders rather than placing Salah ahead of Orban and Osimhen, as initially reported.
Their performances have put African forwards at the centre of the early-season scoring contest, with the competition expected to intensify as the campaign progresses.
Galatasaray Return to the Summit
Galatasaray’s victory over Fenerbahçe lifted the defending champions to 22 points from nine matches, moving them two points clear of second-placed Amedspor.
Trabzonspor occupy third position with 19 points, while Beşiktaş are fourth on 18 points. Fenerbahçe sit fifth with 16 points following their derby defeat.
Galatasaray will now look to maintain their advantage in the title race, while Osimhen aims to build on his latest performance and challenge for the Golden Boot.
With Osimhen, Orban and Salah all on eight goals, the Turkish Süper Lig scoring race remains wide open.
