Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho has made a surprise return to the football scene after officially joining Italian Serie C side at the age of 46.

The former Brazil international and 2005 Ballon d’Or winner has agreed to a unique arrangement with the club that combines football, business, and marketing responsibilities.

Under the agreement, Ronaldinho will become a shareholder in Ravenna FC while also serving as the club’s global marketing ambassador.

The move is aimed at increasing the club’s international visibility and attracting new commercial opportunities.

Ravenna’s ownership, led by businessman Ignazio Cipriani, reportedly views Ronaldinho as the ideal figure to elevate the club’s profile worldwide.

The Brazilian legend is expected to be officially unveiled during a special event in Miami on June 23, 2026.

Although Ronaldinho will be registered as a player, club officials have downplayed expectations of seeing the former Barcelona and AC Milan star feature in competitive Serie C matches.

Ravenna honorary vice-president , who was instrumental in bringing Ronaldinho to AC Milan in 2008, clarified that the Brazilian’s involvement will primarily be promotional rather than competitive.

However, Ronaldinho could still make appearances in exhibition games, charity matches, and selected club friendlies, giving supporters a chance to witness one of football’s greatest entertainers back in action.

The move marks Ronaldinho’s first official association with a professional club since ending his playing career following a spell with in 2015.

Widely regarded as one of the most gifted players in football history, won the FIFA World Player of the Year award twice and inspired Brazil to victory at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

His return, even in a largely off-field capacity, is expected to generate significant global interest around Ravenna FC and Italian lower-division football.

For Ravenna, the arrival of Ronaldinho represents much more than a football signing—it is a strategic move designed to transform the club’s global brand and attract new fans from around the world.
