Rangers International FC have petitioned CAF over alleged stadium damage, unauthorised entry and disorder during their Champions League fixture against MC Alger in Abeokuta.
Rangers International FC of Enugu have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents involving visiting supporters at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, October 19, the Nigerian champions outlined concerns over reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate, entry without payment and vandalism of stadium seats.
The club described the reported incidents as serious concerns requiring CAF’s intervention, particularly with the return leg against MC Alger approaching in Algeria.
Rangers also requested appropriate precautionary measures ahead of Friday’s return fixture, scheduled for October 23, 2026, as the African competition moves into its next stage.
## Rangers Demand CAF Intervention
According to the club’s statement, the alleged incidents occurred during and after the CAF Champions League encounter at the Abeokuta venue.
Rangers said the reported conduct raised concerns about stadium security, respect for football regulations and the safety of everyone attending continental matches.
The club specifically cited the destruction of an entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalisation of seats and other acts of disorder.
However, the allegations remain the club’s account of the incident, and CAF’s response or any independent findings were not included in the statement.
Rangers have therefore asked the continental governing body to examine the matter and consider measures that could prevent further incidents during the return leg.
## Algeria Return Leg Raises Security Concerns
The petition comes ahead of the decisive second encounter in Algeria, where Rangers will seek to navigate a potentially challenging away atmosphere.
The club’s request for precautionary measures highlights the importance of security arrangements for players, officials, supporters and stadium personnel during high-profile African competitions.
Rangers also stressed their commitment to fair play and football regulations, while expressing confidence in CAF’s established procedures.
The club did not announce any disciplinary action or sanctions arising from the reported events, leaving the next steps dependent on CAF’s response.
## Rangers Appeal for Calm
Despite the controversy, Rangers urged their supporters to remain calm, disciplined and focused as preparations continue for the return fixture.
The club thanked fans for their continued loyalty and encouraged everyone connected with the team to support its efforts responsibly.
Rangers ended the statement with their familiar rallying cry, “Never Say Die,” reinforcing their determination ahead of the trip to Algeria.
CAF’s response to the petition could determine whether additional precautionary arrangements emerge before Friday’s encounter.
For now, the reported incidents in Abeokuta have placed stadium security and supporter conduct under scrutiny ahead of another important continental fixture.
