Rangers Claim Top Spot, Enyimba Roar Back, Lagos Derby Ends In Stalemate as EuroMatch NPFL Rescheduled Games Shake Up Table
The EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League served up another twist on Wednesday as Rangers International returned to the summit, Enyimba finally found their winning touch and the Lagos derby ended in a tense stalemate.
Four rescheduled Matchday 2 fixtures produced 10 goals and significant movement on the table, with the defending champions taking control at the top while Enyimba’s first victory of the season offered a much-needed escape route from the pressure at the bottom.
Rangers were the biggest beneficiaries of the night.
The defending champions travelled to Warri and returned with a priceless 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves, taking their tally to 13 points from six matches.
The result was enough to send Rangers back to the top, one point ahead of Rivers United and two clear of Plateau United.
Rivers United were denied the opportunity to remain top after being held to a 1-1 draw by Katsina United.
The point kept Rivers unbeaten and moved them to 12 points, but they surrendered first place to Rangers.
Barau FC are also on 12 points, ensuring the same leading pack remains tightly compressed.
Enyimba Finally Break Through
In Aba, Enyimba produced the night’s biggest scoreline, defeating Shooting Stars 4-2 in an entertaining six-goal contest.
More importantly, the victory ended Enyimba’s wait for a first league win of the campaign.
The People’s Elephant moved to four points, giving coach Okechukwu’s side a significant lift after a difficult opening to the season.
The four goals were particularly important for a team that had struggled for attacking productivity in its opening fixtures.
Enyimba now have something tangible to build on as they attempt to climb away from the danger zone.
Lagos Derby Ends Without a Winner
There was no winner in the much-anticipated Lagos derby as Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City played out a 0-0 draw.
The result left Ikorodu City seventh with nine points, while Sporting Lagos remained ninth on eight points.
Rangers Lead, But Nobody Is Safe
Rangers lead with 13 points, followed by Rivers United and Barau FC on 12, while Plateau United have 11 and Doma United 10.
Just five points separate the top five, leaving the early title race wide open.
At the other end, Enyimba’s four-goal explosion has provided fresh hope in the battle to escape the lower reaches of the table.
