Osimhen, Iheanacho Maintain Red Hot Scoring Form as Lookman Opens 2026/27 La Liga Account

Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman continued their impressive starts to the 2026/27 season after all three scored for their respective clubs on Saturday.

The trio were among the standout Nigerian performers across Europe, with Osimhen and Iheanacho extending their scoring runs while Lookman opened his La Liga account following his high-profile move to Atlético Madrid.

Osimhen Maintains Excellent Galatasaray Form

Osimhen was once again on target as Galatasaray defeated Göztepe 3-2 in an entertaining Turkish Süper Lig encounter.

Göztepe took an early lead through Miroshi in the 16th minute before Davinson Sánchez equalised for the Turkish champions.

Osimhen then turned provider, setting up Gabriel Sara for Galatasaray’s second goal before calmly converting a penalty in the 63rd minute to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.

Göztepe scored again late in the match, but Galatasaray held on to secure another victory and move to the top of the table after three matches.

The goal took Osimhen’s tally to five for the season, highlighting his excellent start to the campaign.

Iheanacho Extends Scoring Streak

In Turkey’s second tier, Kelechi Iheanacho continued his impressive form for Bursaspor by scoring and providing an assist in their victory over Kayserispor.

The former Leicester City and Manchester City forward has now been directly involved in six goals in four appearances this season.

Iheanacho has scored in every match he has played this campaign, having also found the net against Karagümrük and Iğdır FK, while registering an assist in the victory over Bodrum FK.

His consistency has established him as one of the early standout performers in the Turkish second division.

Lookman Opens Atlético Madrid Account

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman marked the beginning of his La Liga career with a goal as Atlético Madrid defeated Sevilla 3-1.

Lookman, who completed a reported €40 million move from Atalanta during the summer, announced himself on the Spanish stage by scoring in the first half.

The Nigerian forward struck after Alex Baena had opened the scoring for Atlético, giving Diego Simeone’s side greater control of the contest before they secured a convincing away victory.

The goal represents a promising start for Lookman as he adapts to life at Atlético Madrid following his successful spell in Italy.

Other Nigerian Stars in Action

Several other Nigerian internationals were also involved across Europe.

Terem Moffi made his official debut for Hamburger SV, featuring for 24 minutes in their Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund, which Dortmund won 2-0.

Victor Boniface came on as a substitute for Bayer Leverkusen in their 3-2 defeat, while Moses Simon continued his creative contribution for Nantes with another assist in France.

In England, Ola Aina featured for Nottingham Forest and received a yellow card during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

With the 2026/27 season still in its early stages, Nigeria’s leading attacking players are already making their mark across Europe. Osimhen, Iheanacho and Lookman, in particular, have provided considerable encouragement for Super Eagles supporters.
