Nigeria Seal U-19 Cricket World Cup Promotion

Nigeria’s Junior Yellow Greens have secured promotion to Division 1 of the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier after a record-breaking 407-run victory over Mozambique in Kigali, Rwanda.

Nigeria produced a stunning batting display at the IPRC Oval, posting a tournament-high 461 runs for six wickets in 50 overs before bowling Mozambique out for just 54 in 23 overs.

Peculiar Egemasi and Edem Nyong were the outstanding performers with centuries, while Hossana Omonkhobhio and captain Ali Rahmon also made valuable contributions.

Omonkhobhio struck 84 from 73 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes, while Rahmon added 41 from 46 deliveries.

Egemasi smashed 123 off 84 balls with 18 fours and three sixes, while Nyong produced a breathtaking unbeaten 137 from only 53 balls, hitting 11 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 258.49.

Nigeria’s bowlers then completed the demolition job as Mozambique struggled throughout their chase.

Kenneth Boniface claimed three wickets for 13 runs, while Princewill Chigozie took two for eight from eight overs, including four maidens.

Egemasi capped his Player of the Match performance with three wickets for just one run.

The victory takes Nigeria to six points, leaving the Junior Yellow Greens second behind Uganda, with one match remaining against Sierra Leone.

Nigeria, Uganda and Rwanda will advance to Division 1 alongside Kenya, Namibia and Tanzania for the next stage of the 2028 ICC Men’s U-19 T20 World Cup qualifiers.
