Nigeria Begins World Youth Scrabble Championship Qualifiers Via Woogles Online Platform This Weekend
Nigeria’s search for its next generation of scrabble stars begins this weekend via Woogles Online Platform as the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) stages the national qualifiers for the 2026 World Youth Scrabble Championship.
The two-day qualifying tournament will be held be held virtually through Woogles online platform on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, with the country’s best young players battling for places in Team Nigeria ahead of the global championship in Nairobi, Kenya.
National Youth Coach Hassan Olojoku Abdulrafiu confirmed that the online qualifiers will determine the players who will represent Nigeria at the prestigious youth championship scheduled for August.
He disclosed that the National Technical Director, Adedeji Khaleel, will communicate the detailed guidelines and competition modalities to participants before the qualifiers begin.
Abdulrafiu urged all eligible players to get familiar with the Woogles platform to ensure a seamless competition, while also calling on coaches and chaperones to provide a stable and distraction-free environment throughout the monitored online matches.
At the end of the qualifiers, the federation will select four players to represent Nigeria in the team event at the 2026 World Youth Scrabble Championship.
Nigeria will also field two players in the Under-10 category, with four youngsters currently in contention for the available slots, setting up another fiercely competitive battle.
Beyond the technical preparations, Abdulrafiu encouraged coaches to intensify sponsorship efforts, revealing that the Nigeria Scrabble Federation will continue to seek regular updates on funding plans ahead of the team’s trip to Kenya.
Nigeria heads into the qualifiers on the back of an outstanding performance at the previous World Youth Scrabble Championship in Malaysia.
Abdulqodus Aliou narrowly missed out on the overall title, while Sophia Ekeruche was crowned the tournament’s Best Female Player.
The 2026 World Youth Scrabble Championship is scheduled to hold from August 7 to 9 at the Trademark Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, where Nigeria will be aiming to maintain its reputation as one of the world’s leading youth scrabble nations.
