Nigeria’s Flamingos secured their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026 with an impressive 3-1 victory over defending champions Korea DPR on Friday.
The Nigerian girls delivered a commanding performance against one of the tournament’s most prolific teams, scoring three times to end the North Koreans’ perfect start and confirm their progression to the knockout stage.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi set Nigeria on their way in the 15th minute, giving the Flamingos an early advantage in the crucial Group B encounter.
Oluebube Umejiaku doubled the lead in the 38th minute, putting Nigeria in a strong position before the interval. Kanyinsola Yusuf then struck in the 56th minute to extend the advantage to 3-0 and leave the defending champions facing a daunting task.
Korea DPR reduced the deficit through Yu Jong-hyang’s 82nd-minute penalty, but the Flamingos maintained their composure to secure a memorable victory.
The result was a significant statement from Nigeria, particularly against opponents who had opened their campaign with emphatic victories over Puerto Rico and Poland, scoring 12 goals across the two matches.
