LA 2028 Olympics Race: Eguavoen Names 28 Super Falcons Stars for Comoros Showdown
Interim Super Falcons head coach Augustine Eguavoen has unveiled a 28-player squad for Nigeria’s crucial second-round qualifying tie against Comoros in the race for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The squad blends established internationals with emerging talents, with captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie, Ashley Plumptre and Oluwatosin Demehin, as well as midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini among the headline names.
Former African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday, Uchenna Kanu, Flourish Sabastine and Joy Omewa also make the cut as Nigeria prepare for a two-legged encounter that could determine their progress in the Olympic qualifying campaign.
Eguavoen has also rewarded several promising youngsters, including Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei.
The invited players are expected to report at the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3, ahead of preparations for the first leg.
Comoros will be the designated home side for the opening encounter on Friday, October 9, but the match will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international fixtures.
Nigeria will then host the return leg at the same venue on Tuesday, October 13.
The Falcons must overcome Comoros across the two legs to keep their Olympic qualification campaign alive. Victory on aggregate will send Nigeria into the third round of the five-stage qualifying series, which is scheduled to run through December next year.
