Kemi Adegbuyi, Kennedy Boboye Lead Edo Queens’ CAF Champions League Charge
NWFL Player of the Season Kemi Adegbuyi and interim coach Kennedy Boboye will be central to Edo Queens’ bid to secure a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Adegbuyi, who joined Edo Queens on loan from Robo Queens, is part of the reigning NWFL Premiership champions’ squad for the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The highly-rated midfielder enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign and was rewarded with the NWFL Player of the Season award.
Her arrival adds further quality and experience to an Edo Queens side seeking to repeat its 2024 WAFU B success.
However, the team will begin its continental campaign under the guidance of Boboye, who has stepped in as interim coach in the absence of head coach Moses Aduku.
Aduku is currently away with Nigeria’s Falconets, who are preparing for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, leaving Boboye with the responsibility of leading Edo Queens through the crucial qualifying tournament.
Edo Queens arrived in Ouagadougou on Friday evening and held their first training session on Saturday morning as preparations intensified for their opening fixture.
The Nigerian champions have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
Their first match will be against AS Garde Nationale on Monday, August 24, at Stade 4 Août, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.
Edo Queens are targeting the lone WAFU B ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in South Africa.
The Nigerian side won the regional qualifiers in 2024 and went on to finish fourth in their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League appearance.
With Adegbuyi providing quality in midfield and Boboye taking charge on the touchline, Edo Queens will hope to make another strong push for continental glory.
