Inter Lagos Docked Three Points, Three Goals After Match Officials Assault
Inter Lagos have been docked three points and three goals after the club was sanctioned over the assault and injury of a match official during their Matchday 7 fixture against Katsina United.
The Lagos-based club was found guilty of multiple breaches of the NPFL 2026/27 Framework and Rules following incidents that occurred after Sunday’s encounter on October 4, 2026.
According to the disciplinary decision, Inter Lagos failed to provide adequate and effective security, allowing unauthorised persons into restricted areas and creating a situation in which match officials were attacked while leaving the dressing room for their vehicle.
The officials were also reportedly held hostage for more than an hour after the match, while club officials and supporters allegedly intimidated, harassed and verbally abused them.
The disciplinary ruling further stated that the club’s team manager, alongside some supporters, assaulted the match officials.
The first assistant referee sustained a facial injury during the incident and also lost personal belongings, including suffering damage to his mobile phone.
For the security breach, Inter Lagos were fined ₦2 million, while another ₦1 million fine was imposed for holding the match officials for more than an hour.
The club was handed a further ₦2 million fine for the assault, with an additional ₦250,000 ordered as compensation to the affected assistant referee for his lost personal items, damaged phone and medical treatment.
The most significant punishment, however, is the sporting sanction: three points and three goals have been deducted from Inter Lagos’ accumulated tally for assaulting and injuring the first assistant referee.
The disciplinary action could significantly affect the club’s position in the NPFL standings as the 2026/27 campaign progresses.
Inter Lagos have 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions.
The case represents one of the strongest disciplinary actions of the season so far and underlines the league’s rules on the protection of match officials and the responsibility of home clubs for security and conduct on matchdays.
