The opening fixture of the four-nation tournament lived up to expectations, producing five goals and end-to-end action as Tanzania held off a determined Nigerian fightback to secure all three points.
Tanzania took their chances through Issa Chole, Hamisi Chenga and Kassim Juma to seal a memorable victory over the five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup champions.
Despite the defeat, the Golden Eaglets showed flashes of quality and resilience, with the coaching crew gaining valuable insight into the team’s strengths and areas that require improvement ahead of more important assignments.
The tournament represents a crucial stage in Nigeria’s build-up to the WAFU B U-17 Championship in September, where qualification for the 2027 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations will be at stake.
Head coach Uwejamomere Eboboritse is expected to use the remaining matches to further assess his squad, improve tactical cohesion and give players the competitive exposure needed before the regional qualifiers.
