Team Nigeria recorded mixed results in the swimming events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with Abduljabar Adama and Colins Ebingha booking places in the men’s 50m Butterfly semi-finals, while Dorcas Oka bowed out in the women’s 50m Freestyle.
National record holder Abduljabar continued his impressive campaign by finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 23.99 seconds, comfortably securing qualification for the semi-finals.
Ebingha also progressed after placing fifth in the same heat in 24.01 seconds, ensuring Nigeria will have two representatives in the men’s 50m Butterfly semi-finals later on Tuesday .
The duo will now aim to reach the final and keep Nigeria’s hopes alive in the pool.
However, it was disappointment for Dorcas Oka in the women’s 50m Freestyle.
The Nigerian swimmer clocked 27.27 seconds in the heats, a performance that was not enough to earn a place in the semi-finals.
The result marked Oka’s second early exit at the Games after she was also eliminated in the heats of the women’s 100m Breaststroke, where she finished eighth in her heat with a time of 1:17.34, placing 24th overall.
Despite Oka’s exit, Nigeria’s swimming campaign remains alive, with Abduljabar and Ebingha carrying the nation’s hopes into the men’s 50m Butterfly semi-finals later today.
