Glasgow 2026: Australia Tops Nigeria Finishes 7th as Organisers Release Final Medal Table
The organisers of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have released the official final medal table following the conclusion of the Games on Sunday, with Australia crowned the overall champions and Nigeria finishing seventh.
Australia dominated the 11-day competition, securing 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze medals for a total of 171 medals. England finished second with 110 medals, while Canada occupied third position with 62.
The official table confirms Nigeria’s impressive campaign, with Team Nigeria ending the Games seventh overall and first among African nations.
Nigeria collected 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, taking its overall haul to 24 medals.
The Nigerian contingent finished ahead of Jamaica, Wales and South Africa on the final standings.
Nigeria Finishes as Africa ‘s Best
Nigeria’s seventh-place finish represents a strong showing at Glasgow 2026, particularly as the country finished ahead of every other African delegation.
South Africa was the next-best African country, finishing 11th with seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals, while Kenya placed 13th with three gold, four silver and five bronze.
Cameroon finished 16th with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals, while Ghana was 30th with two medals.
Australia’s Dominance
Australia finished a commanding 61 medals ahead of England and accounted for 70 of the 171 medals won by the top-ranked nation.
England claimed 29 gold medals and matched Australia’s 45 silver medals, but its 36 bronze medals left it second overall.
Canada completed the podium with 19 gold medals, 20 silver and 23 bronze for 62 medals.
India and Scotland both finished on 39 medals, but India took fourth place after winning 17 silver medals to Scotland’s nine.
New Zealand completed the top six before Nigeria emerged as the highest-ranked African country.
Nigeria’s 24-Medal Campaign
Nigeria’s final haul of 24 medals – 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze – represents one of the standout African performances of Glasgow 2026.
The country’s 10 gold medals were particularly significant, placing Nigeria level with New Zealand and Jamaica in the gold-medal column.
Nigeria’s success was driven by a combination of athletics, weightlifting and para-sport performances, with several athletes producing record-breaking displays during the Games.
