Ghana Beat Nigeria , Seal BSAFCON Ticket as Sand Eagles Crash Out

Ghana’s Black Sharks defeated Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles 7-4 in the second leg of their 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) qualifier in Keta on Sunday, October 18, securing a 10-7 aggregate victory to book their place at the continental tournament.

The Black Sharks capitalised on home advantage to overturn Nigeria’s challenge and qualify for the competition, scheduled to hold in Senegal from November 7 to 15, 2026.

The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of featuring at the championship, dealing a significant setback to the Super Sand Eagles after a disappointing two-legged qualifying campaign.

Black Sharks Punish Sand Eagles in Keta

Ghana delivered a decisive performance in the return leg, scoring seven goals to overcome Nigeria and complete a three-goal aggregate triumph over their West African rivals.

The hosts proved more clinical in front of goal, taking advantage of their attacking opportunities to secure qualification and leave the Super Sand Eagles unable to recover.

Nigeria’s four goals were insufficient to keep their continental ambitions alive, as Ghana finished the tie with a 10-7 aggregate advantage.

First-Leg Controversy Adds to Qualifying Drama

The first leg in Kaduna was closely contested, with Isah Hamza Manga among Nigeria’s standout performers.

However, the encounter was overshadowed by controversy surrounding the officiating and the handling of the penalty shootout, with subsequent reviews raising questions about the outcome.

Despite the contentious circumstances surrounding the opening match, Ghana ultimately secured their ticket with the victory in Keta.

Nigeria Miss Out on Senegal 2026

The Super Sand Eagles must now regroup following their failure to qualify for the 2026 BSAFCON, while Ghana will prepare to represent the country at the continental showpiece.

Nigeria’s elimination raises questions about the team’s preparation and execution across the qualifying tie, particularly their inability to contain Ghana’s attack in the decisive second leg.

For the Black Sharks, the victory provides a confidence boost ahead of the tournament, where they will seek to make an impact against Africa’s leading beach soccer nations.

The 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for November 7-15 in Senegal, with Ghana now set to compete for continental honours after overcoming their Nigerian rivals.
