FIBA U-18 AfroBasket: Junior D’Tigress Destroy Cameroon 75-45, Book Semi-Final Spot
Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress produced a stunning response to their group-stage defeat to Cameroon, thrashing the Central Africans 75-45 in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The victory at the Palais des Sports de Treichville on Wednesday saw Nigeria overturn their narrow 75-74 overtime defeat to Cameroon earlier in the tournament and book their place in the semi-finals.
The Junior D’Tigress came out firing and quickly established control, racing to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Nigeria continued their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring Cameroon 28-12 to take a commanding 48-20 advantage into halftime.
Cameroon showed some fight after the break, winning the third quarter 19-11, but Nigeria remained firmly in control.
The Nigerian side tightened their defence in the final quarter, restricting Cameroon to just six points while adding 16 of their own to complete a 30-point victory.
Favour Joy Anari led Nigeria’s impressive performance with 16 points, eight assists and five steals, while Zainab Adelaja added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Oluwatobiloba Owolabi contributed 11 points and four assists, while Precious Grace Aladelua completed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The emphatic victory sends Junior D’Tigress into Saturday’s semi-finals, where they will continue their quest for continental glory and a place in the final.
A place in the final would also put Nigeria within touching distance of securing qualification for the 2027 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in China.
