Ezechukwu, Nathaniel, Kure Lead Star-Studded Field as Over 850 Athletes Gear Up for Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet

More than 850 athletes are expected to compete at the Athletic Heat 10th Anniversary Meet on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos, with Nigerian internationals Miracle Ezechukwu, Samson Nathaniel and Adams Samuel Kure headlining the field.

The milestone competition will bring together established international performers, emerging talents and grassroots athletes across several track and field disciplines as Athletic Heat celebrates a decade of contributing to athletics development in Nigeria.

Ezechukwu, one of Nigeria’s most promising sprint talents, is expected to headline the women’s 100m following an impressive rise on the national and international scene.

The teenage sprinter announced her arrival in 2025 with three gold medals at the African U-18 and U-20 Championships in Abeokuta.

She has continued her progression this season, recording personal bests of 11.15 seconds in the 100m and 22.77 seconds in the 200m.

At the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, Ezechukwu finished fourth in the women’s 100m final before helping Nigeria secure gold in the 4x100m relay in a championship-record time of 42.94 seconds.

Her presence is expected to provide a major boost to the women’s sprint competition.

In the men’s 400m, Nathaniel brings considerable international experience, having represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships.

He was also a member of Nigeria’s gold-medal-winning men’s 4x400m relay team at the 2023 African Games in Accra.

The quarter-miler has remained active on the international circuit in 2026, clocking 45.89 seconds at the Addis Ababa Athletics Meet while contributing to Nigeria’s relay campaign.

With a personal best of 45.23 seconds, Nathaniel will be among the leading contenders in the one-lap event.

The men’s javelin throw will also attract considerable attention, with Nigerian international Adams Samuel Kure set to lead the field.

Kure won bronze at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a throw of 76.01m, finishing behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Muhammad Yasir. He has also represented Nigeria at the African Senior Athletics Championships, establishing himself among the country’s leading performers in the event.

The participation of the three internationals further reinforces the competition’s appeal as a meeting point for elite athletes and the next generation of Nigerian track and field talents.

Meanwhile, the organisers have completed the seeding of events and allocation of bib numbers ahead of Saturday’s competition.

Athletes and coaches have been advised to consult the Roster Athletics app for their event schedules, heat and flight assignments, and allocated bib numbers.

The senior men’s 100m has attracted 320 entries, with the top 32 athletes by ranking advancing to four finals. In the senior women’s 100m, the top 24 athletes will qualify for the finals.

In the age-grade categories, the U-15 100m will feature heats, with finalists determined by ranking. The U-11 boys’ 100m will have two heats and a final, while the top eight competitors in the U-11 girls’ event will advance directly to the final.

For the 400m and 800m events, athletes have been seeded according to their season-best performances, with the fastest competitors grouped in Final A.

The hurdles finals will be restricted to six athletes each because of equipment limitations, while the long jump competition will be conducted in two flights based on performance levels.

Prizes and awards will follow the respective event structures, with athletes ranked according to their performances. Under-age competitors in throwing events will have their results recorded and uploaded but will not be eligible for prizes.

The organising committee has also urged athletes who will be unable to attend to notify the organisers ahead of the competition to allow their entries to be withdrawn and prevent unnecessary Did Not Start (DNS) records.

All participants have been advised to arrive early, come with their allocated bib numbers and confirm their heat or flight assignments upon arrival.

The competition is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex, Lagos.

With more than 850 athletes expected and three Nigerian internationals among the leading attractions, the 10th anniversary edition is set to provide a compelling showcase of athletics talent, competition and development as Athletic Heat celebrates a decade of impact.
