EuroMatch NPFL Week 9: Sporting Lagos Snatch Three Points in Jos as Rain Halts Rivers United, Barau FC

Sporting Lagos pulled off a massive away victory in Jos, coming from behind to defeat Plateau United 3-2, while heavy rainfall forced the suspension of Rivers United’s encounter with Barau FC as EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 9 delivered drama across the country on Sunday.

The Lagos-based side showed remarkable resilience to overturn a first-half deficit and claim all three points, with Jacob Aondona scoring the decisive goal seven minutes from regulation time.

Elsewhere, Kano Pillars edged Katsina United 1-0, Niger Tornadoes defeated Ikorodu City 2-1, and Nasarawa United secured a 2-0 away victory against Inter Lagos. Enyimba and Warri Wolves settled for a goalless draw.

Sporting Lagos Complete Comeback in Jos

Sporting Lagos produced one of the weekend’s most significant results by defeating Plateau United 3-2 at the New Jos Stadium.

Aliyu Baba gave the visitors an early advantage in the 10th minute, but Plateau United responded through Victor Dawa, who equalised in the 35th minute before scoring again in first-half stoppage time to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.

Sporting Lagos returned after the break with renewed determination, and Victor Samuel brought them level in the 53rd minute.

The decisive moment arrived in the 83rd minute when Jacob Aondona found the net to complete the comeback and hand Sporting Lagos a valuable three points on the road.

Plateau United’s challenge was further complicated when Alex Aghahowa received a second yellow card in the 80th minute, reducing the hosts to 10 men for the closing stages.

The victory represented an important statement from Sporting Lagos, who demonstrated their ability to recover from adversity against a Plateau United side playing on home soil.

Rain Denies Rivers United, Barau FC Full-Time Finish

Rivers United and Barau FC were unable to complete their encounter after heavy rainfall disrupted proceedings.

The match was suspended with the score at 0-0, leaving the final 15 minutes to be played on Monday morning, October 19, from 8:00 a.m.

For Rivers United, the unfinished fixture represents an opportunity to strengthen their position in the title race, while Barau FC will also be hoping to make the remaining minutes count.

Kano Pillars, Tornadoes Secure Victories

Kelechi Ogbodo broke the deadlock in the 11th minute before Ugochukwu Leonard doubled the advantage in the 40th minute.

Inter Lagos failed to find a response as Nasarawa United returned home with all three points.

Enyimba, Warri Wolves Share Spoils

Enyimba and Warri Wolves played out a 0-0 draw, with neither team able to find the decisive goal.

The result gave both sides a point, although Enyimba will be disappointed not to have converted home advantage into a victory.
