EuroMatch NPFL Week 8: Katsina United Survive Enyimba Fight back as Umar Rabiu Seals Six-Goal Thriller

Katsina United survived a spirited second-half comeback from Enyimba to secure a 4-2 victory in a six-goal thriller in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The hosts raced into a three-goal lead before Enyimba scored twice to threaten a remarkable comeback. However, Umar Rabiu produced a superb individual goal in the 80th minute to restore Katsina United’s two-goal cushion and secure all three points in their EuroMatch NPFL Matchday Eight encounter.

Onyema Own Goal Gives Katsina United Early Lead

Katsina United took the lead in the sixth minute through an own goal credited to Enyimba defender Emeka Onyema.

The defender’s back-pass slipped beyond goalkeeper Dede Dare, who failed to clear the ball, resulting in an unfortunate opening goal for the visitors’ opponents.

Mubarak Sani doubled Katsina United’s advantage in the 12th minute with a powerful effort from outside the penalty area, leaving Enyimba facing an uphill battle early in the match.

Enyimba attempted to respond through Idris Abubakar, Chidera and Richards, but Katsina United goalkeeper Francis Koroma made important interventions to preserve his team’s advantage.

The hosts went into the half-time break with a 2-0 lead.

Dadong Extends Lead as Enyimba Fight Back

Katsina United strengthened their position in the 60th minute when Luis Dadong rose highest to head home a cross, making it 3-0.

Enyimba responded with renewed urgency, and Chidera pulled a goal back in the 67th minute after finishing a cross from Obichere.

The Aba Elephants continued to apply pressure and reduced the deficit to 3-2 in the 75th minute when Egbe Charles headed home a flick from Richards.

With momentum shifting towards the visitors, Enyimba pushed forward in search of an equaliser, raising the prospect of a dramatic comeback after trailing by three goals.

However, Katsina United found the decisive response in the 80th minute.

Umar Rabiu produced a superb individual goal to make it 4-2, restoring the hosts’ two-goal advantage and dealing a significant blow to Enyimba’s hopes of salvaging a point.

Enyimba continued to search for another goal in the closing stages, but Koroma denied Damian’s effort from outside the box during stoppage time as Katsina United held on for victory.

League Table Implications

The victory gives Katsina United three valuable points from their Matchday Eight fixture, taking them to 12 points from eight matches.

Enyimba, meanwhile, remain on seven points after suffering their fifth defeat in eight league matches, increasing the pressure on the Aba-based side to improve their results in the coming weeks.

Although Enyimba demonstrated attacking resilience by scoring twice after falling three goals behind, their defensive lapses proved costly. Katsina United’s ability to withstand the pressure and find a fourth goal ultimately settled the contest.

The final standings will depend on the remaining Matchday Eight results, with several teams still competing for valuable points at the top and bottom of the table.
