Shooting Stars Sports Club returned to winning ways in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with a convincing 3-1 victory over Ranchers Bees in their Matchday 9 encounter in Ibadan on Friday, providing relief for head coach Salisu Yusuf and ending the Oluyole Warriors’ losing streak.
Goals from Desmond Ojietefian, Damilola Akinola and Qamar Adegoke secured the maximum points for the Ibadan-based side, while Isah Ndala Aliyu scored the visitors’ only goal.
Shooting Stars made a bright start and took the lead in the 14th minute through Ojietefian, who put the hosts in front as they sought to halt their run of disappointing results.
Ranchers Bees responded in the 38th minute when Ndala Aliyu found the net to draw the visitors level, raising hopes of a positive result for the away side.
However, Shooting Stars restored their advantage in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, with Damilola Akinola scoring in the 45th+3 minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break.
The Oluyole Warriors had an opportunity to extend their advantage shortly after the restart when referee awarded them a penalty in the 48th minute following a handball by Ibrahim Inuwa inside the box.
Ranchers Bees goalkeeper Tofa, however, kept his side in contention by saving Sodiq Ibrahim’s spot-kick in the 52nd minute.
Shooting Stars eventually established a two-goal cushion in the 71st minute through a superb individual effort from Qamar Adegoke, who beat his marker before squeezing the ball into the net from a difficult angle to make it 3-1.
The hosts maintained their advantage until the final whistle to secure a crucial victory and bring their losing streak to an end.
The result offers much-needed relief for Yusuf and his Shooting Stars squad as they look to build momentum in the NPFL campaign.
For Ranchers Bees and their coach, Abdallah, the defeat represents another setback, with the visitors left to regroup ahead of their next league assignment.
