Rangers International climbed to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League standings after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance in their rescheduled Matchday 9 fixture in Awka on Wednesday.
Defender Chidozie Iwundu scored the decisive goal in the 47th minute, striking shortly after the restart to hand the Flying Antelopes all three points.
The defender’s latest contribution further reinforces his reputation as one of the NPFL’s most prolific goal-scoring defenders, having finished the 2025/26 campaign as the league’s highest-scoring defender with eight goals.
Iwundu’s attacking threat has become an important asset for Rangers, with his ability to deliver crucial goals adding another dimension to the team’s offensive play.
The victory takes Rangers to 21 points from 10 matches, moving them to the summit of the league standings, while Bendel Insurance remain on 18 points from 11 games.
The rescheduled encounter had initially been postponed due to Rangers’ involvement in the CAF Champions League.
For Rangers, the result provides a significant boost to their league campaign, while Bendel Insurance will be disappointed to leave Awka without a point.
