The battle for crucial points in the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) continues on Sunday, with Ikorodu City FC and Shooting Stars set to renew their Southwest rivalry in Lagos, while unbeaten Rivers United travel to Benin City to face Bendel Insurance.
The two encounters headline Matchday 10, which features seven fixtures on Sunday following the rescheduling of two matches, including Ranchers Bees versus Doma United, originally scheduled for Saturday.
The weekend programme opened with Katsina United fighting back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Plateau United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Saturday.
Ikorodu City, Shooting Stars Renew Southwest Rivalry
The Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, will be the centre of attention as Ikorodu City host Shooting Stars in a contest carrying both local bragging rights and important league implications.
Ikorodu City will seek a response after their recent defeat to Niger Tornadoes, hoping home advantage can help them return to winning ways and maintain their push up the standings.
Shooting Stars, meanwhile, arrive with renewed confidence following their 3-1 victory over Ranchers Bees in Ibadan. The result offered the Oluyole Warriors a much-needed boost after a difficult spell, and they will be keen to build on that performance away from home.
However, securing a positive result in Lagos will require greater consistency from the visitors, particularly against an Ikorodu City side eager to make its home ground count.
The encounter promises an engaging contest between two Southwest rivals, with neither side likely to want to surrender the bragging rights.
The match is scheduled for 4:00 pm and will be broadcast on the MBI YouTube channel, Afro Soccer and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
Rivers United Put Unbeaten Record on the Line in Benin
League leaders Rivers United face a stern examination when they visit Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The Port Harcourt club have enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, remaining unbeaten after nine league matches. Their consistency has placed them among the early favourites in the title race, but Sunday’s trip presents another test of their ability to deliver away from home.
Bendel Insurance will be determined to exploit their home advantage and inflict a first league defeat on the Pride of Rivers. The Benin Arsenal have made their home matches count and will view the visit of the league leaders as an opportunity to strengthen their own position.
Rivers United must maintain their defensive discipline and attacking efficiency if they are to leave Benin with a positive result.
With the title race beginning to take shape, the outcome could have important implications for both teams as the season progresses.
Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
Seven Other Battles Across the NPFL Landscape
Beyond the headline fixtures, Matchday 10 offers several intriguing contests.
Barau FC welcome Kwara United in Kano, while Abia Warriors host Niger Tornadoes in Aba. Kun Khalifat face Inter Lagos in Owerri, and Nasarawa United entertain Enyimba in Lafia.
Warri Wolves will also take on Kano Pillars at the Southern Delta University Stadium in Ozoro as both sides look to strengthen their league campaigns.
Each fixture presents an opportunity to collect valuable points, improve league positions and establish greater consistency in the early stages of the season.
Katsina United Rescue Point Against Plateau United
Saturday’s only completed fixture produced a dramatic finish as Katsina United recovered from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Plateau United.
An own goal by Umar Rabiu put Plateau United ahead in the 30th minute before Jibril Ibrahim extended their lead in the 82nd minute.
Katsina United responded almost immediately through Yusha’u Armiya’u in the 84th minute, before Rabiu scored at the other end in stoppage time to complete the hosts’ comeback.
The result left both sides with a point after a contest that appeared to be heading towards a Plateau United victory until the closing stages.
Two Fixtures Rescheduled
Ranchers Bees’ home match against Doma United, initially scheduled for Saturday, has been moved to Wednesday, November 18, following the unavailability of the club’s adopted home ground in Kano.
Sporting Lagos’ meeting with Enugu Rangers has also been rescheduled to Wednesday, November 25, to accommodate Rangers’ continental commitments.
Both matches are scheduled for 4:00 pm.
