Davis Cup Play-offs: Nigeria Faces El Salvador for World Group II Return
Nigeria will face El Salvador for the 2027 Davis Cup World Group II Play-offs, following a draw conducted by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in London.
The tie is scheduled for February 5–6 or February 6–7, 2027, with El Salvador hosting. Nigeria earned its place in the play-offs after losing 4–0 to Morocco in Rabat, a result that prevented the team from consolidating its World Group II position.
The defeat did not end Nigeria’s campaign at this level. A victory in El Salvador would secure a return to World Group II, while defeat would force the team to pursue another route through regional competition.
From Lagos to El Salvador
Nigeria had secured promotion to World Group II with a 3–1 victory over Uzbekistan at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan. The loss to Morocco now leaves the team facing a challenging away tie in Central America.
El Salvador’s home advantage will add to the pressure, leaving Nigeria with little margin for error in February.
A Chance to Respond
The play-off offers Nigeria an opportunity to recover from its defeat in Morocco. Victory would restore the team’s place in the World Group II structure; defeat would make the road back significantly longer.
