Ajibade Returns to France as PSG Monitor Injury After Super Falcons Captain’s Hospital Scan
Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade has returned to France for further medical examinations after suffering a potentially serious injury during the Super Falcons’ 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of their 2028 Olympic qualifying tie.
According to a report by SavidNews, preliminary findings from an X-ray examination at a Lagos hospital have raised concerns that the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder could be sidelined for at least two months. However, the recovery timeline remains unconfirmed pending further medical assessments in France.
Ajibade reportedly travelled to Paris late on Tuesday night after undergoing the examination, which was requested by medical personnel at her French club. PSG have been closely monitoring her condition following the injury.
The 26-year-old suffered the setback during Tuesday’s encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, following a first-half collision with a Comoros defender.
Visibly distressed, the Super Falcons captain was stretchered off the pitch in the 28th minute, with Folashade Ijamilusi coming on as her replacement.
Speaking after the match, Super Falcons caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen disclosed that the medical team had taken Ajibade to the hospital for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury.
The injury came as a significant concern for both Nigeria and PSG, particularly as the midfielder had only recently returned from an injury layoff.
An extended absence could rule Ajibade out of several important fixtures for the French club, including their league meeting with defending champions Lyon on October 17 and the UEFA Women’s Champions League clash against Manchester City.
Her availability could also become a concern for Nigeria ahead of the Super Falcons’ third-round qualifying tie against Morocco in the race for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Despite the concerns surrounding her condition, Ajibade’s exact diagnosis and recovery period have yet to be officially confirmed. Further medical examinations in France are expected to provide a clearer picture of the injury and the rehabilitation programme required.
Nigeria will hope the influential captain avoids a lengthy spell on the sidelines as the Super Falcons continue their Olympic qualification campaign.
