FIFA U-17 Girls World Cup: Flamingos Arrive in Morocco, Eyes Historic Run

Nigeria’s Flamingos have arrived safely in Casablanca ahead of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with Akeem Busari’s side setting their sights on going beyond the bronze-medal feat achieved at the 2022 edition.

The Flamingos arrived in Morocco at 11:16 a.m. local time on Wednesday, following their departure from Abuja earlier in the morning, and have settled at the Ibis Hotel in Casablanca.

Busari has named a 21-player squad for the tournament, with captain Harmony Chidi leading Nigeria’s campaign as the five-time African champions prepare for another test on the global stage.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and defending champions Korea DPR.

The Flamingos will open their campaign against Poland on Saturday, October 17, before facing Puerto Rico on October 20. Their final group-stage fixture is against defending champions Korea DPR on October 23.

Nigeria’s bronze-medal finish at the 2022 tournament remains one of the Flamingos’ standout achievements at the competition. Busari’s team will now seek to improve on that performance and push further into the latter stages of the expanded 24-team tournament in Morocco.

The tournament runs from October 17 to November 7, giving the Flamingos a fresh opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s pedigree at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

With their Moroccan base now established, attention turns to preparations for the opening Group B clash against Poland as Nigeria begins its quest to turn the 2022 bronze into an even brighter finish in 2026.
