Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) gathered pace on Monday as the Super Falcons officially opened their training camp in Casablanca.
Nine players reported to camp on the first day as
captain Rasheedat Ajibade, six-time African Women’s Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala, first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ucheibe, Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Rofiat Imuran, Fatima Oloko, and Shukurat Oladipo were among the early arrivals.
The players joined head coach Justine Madugu and his backroom staff as they begin preparations for the continental tournament.
Madugu has invited a 25-player squad for the competition, with the remaining players expected to link up with the team in the coming days before the Super Falcons move to Rabat for the group stage.
The defending African champions are targeting a record-extending 11th WAFCON title after lifting the trophy in Morocco at the last edition.
The technical crew is expected to use the Casablanca camp to fine-tune tactics, assess player fitness, and build team chemistry ahead of the championship.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Malawi, and Egypt.
The Super Falcons will begin their campaign against Malawi on July 28 at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat before taking on Zambia and Egypt in their remaining group fixtures.
The 2026 WAFCON, scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco, will be the first edition of the tournament to feature 16 teams, underlining the continued growth of women’s football on the continent.
The competition will also serve as part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification.
With another continental title firmly in sight, the Super Falcons will be aiming to build momentum from the opening days of camp as they begin their latest quest for African glory.
