Eugene Diamond League 2026: Tobi Amusan Finishes Runner-Up as Olympic Champions Masai Russell Equals Meet Record
Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan continued her impressive resurgence with a season’s best performance to finish second in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 Eugene Diamond League on Saturday.
The Nigerian star crossed the line in 12.34 seconds, trailing only Olympic champion Masai Russell, who maintained her flawless outdoor season by winning in 12.24 seconds to equal the Prefontaine Classic meet record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.
Amusan recovered strongly after a modest start, producing a powerful finish to comfortably secure second place.
The World record holder further underline her return to top form ahead of the season’s major championships.
Bahamian hurdler Devynne Charlton claimed third in 12.41 seconds, edging American Grace Stark, who posted the same time but settled for fourth after a photo finish.
Reigning world champion Danielle Williams and fellow Jamaican Ackera Nugent finished fifth and sixth respectively, with both athletes clocking 12.51 seconds.
Russell’s victory extended her unbeaten outdoor streak to six consecutive individual races, while her record-equalling performance further strengthened her status as one of the leading contenders in the event this season.
For Amusan, the runner-up finish adds to her growing confidence after her recent Diamond League triumph in Rabat, with the former world champion showing encouraging signs as she builds towards the global championships.
