Kanyinsola Ajayi Stuns World Champion Oblique Seville, Equals Nigerian 100m Record at Eugene Diamond League

Nigeria’s sprint sensation Kanyinsola Ajayi announced himself as a genuine global title contender after defeating reigning world champion Oblique Seville to win the men’s 100m at the Eugene Diamond League, equalling the Nigerian national record with a sensational 9.84 seconds.

The 20-year-old reigning NCAA champion produced the performance of his career in a stacked field featuring some of the world’s fastest sprinters.

Ajayi exploded from the starting blocks and maintained his advantage throughout the race, holding off a late challenge from Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, who settled for second in 9.89 seconds. American Kenneth Bednarek finished third in 9.95 seconds, while former world champion Christian Coleman placed fourth in 9.96 seconds.

With his stunning victory, Ajayi matched the Nigerian national record of 9.84 seconds, becoming only the second Nigerian to achieve the feat and further establishing himself among the world’s elite sprinters.

The triumph marks another major milestone in Ajayi’s remarkable rise, following his NCAA title-winning season, and sends a strong message ahead of the upcoming global championships as Nigeria’s newest sprint star continues to make history on the international stage.
