EuroMatch NPFL: Rivers, Rangers Set for Super Sunday Showdown as Week 11 Opens with Two Draws

The 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 opened with two draws, setting the stage for an exciting Super Sunday headlined by the heavyweight encounter between league leaders Rivers United and defending champions Rangers International in Port Harcourt.

Niger Tornadoes and Barau FC played out a goalless draw at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna on Friday, October 30, before Doma United and Ikorodu City shared four goals in a 2-2 stalemate at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Saturday.

Attention now shifts to Sunday’s eight fixtures, with the battle for the top spot and crucial points in the relegation struggle providing compelling storylines across the country.

Rivers United, Rangers Headline Super Sunday

The biggest attraction of Matchday 11 will be the top-of-the-table showdown between Rivers United and Rangers International at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Both sides head into the encounter with 17 points, although Rivers United occupy first position on goal difference, while Rangers sit second with two outstanding matches.

Rivers United will be determined to return to winning ways after their 2-1 defeat to Bendel Insurance ended their unbeaten start to the campaign.

The Pride of Rivers, however, can draw confidence from their impressive home record. They have won all 10 previous home meetings against Rangers since adopting their current name from Dolphins FC. Their last home defeat to the Enugu side dates back to 2003.

Rangers, meanwhile, return their attention to domestic football following their elimination from the CAF Champions League by Algerian champions MC Alger, who overturned a first-leg deficit to progress 3-2 on aggregate.

The Flying Antelopes have demonstrated considerable attacking strength on their travels, scoring seven away goals this season, while Rivers United boast one of the league’s strongest defensive records and have yet to concede at home.

With both teams targeting the summit, Sunday’s encounter could have significant implications for the early title race.

Nasarawa United Target Top Spot in Kano

Third-placed Nasarawa United will also be looking to take advantage of the title rivals’ direct confrontation when they travel to Kano to face Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

The Solid Miners have accumulated 17 points and are level with Rivers United and Rangers, making Sunday’s encounter another potentially decisive fixture in the title race.

Nasarawa head into the contest on an impressive five-match unbeaten run, having recorded four victories and one draw during that period. Their latest success was a 1-0 victory over Enyimba.

Kano Pillars, however, will present a difficult challenge on home soil. The Sai Masu Gida have lost just once in 10 league matches this season, although their record of three wins and six draws highlights their tendency to share the points.

A victory for Nasarawa, coupled with dropped points by either or both teams above them, could take the Lafia-based side to the top of the standings.

Other Sunday Fixtures

At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Shooting Stars will welcome Abia Warriors as the Oluyole Warriors seek to build on their 3-1 victory over Ranchers Bees and strengthen their position in the upper half of the table.

Former champions Enyimba will host Southeast rivals Kun Khalifat FC in another interesting encounter. The People’s Elephant are under pressure to return to winning ways following their 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa United, while Kun Khalifat arrive with confidence after beating Inter Lagos by the same scoreline.

Kwara United will entertain Bendel Insurance in Ilorin. Bendel head into the encounter following their impressive 2-1 victory over Rivers United, while the Harmony Boys will seek to turn their recent draws into maximum points.

At the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Katsina United welcome Sporting Lagos, with the visitors looking to maintain their impressive away form. Sporting have won three away matches this season and collected 10 points on their travels.

Plateau United will host Warri Wolves in Jos, with the hosts seeking to return to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Katsina United.

Meanwhile, Inter Lagos and Ranchers Bees will clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in a crucial encounter involving two sides struggling near the bottom of the standings.

Inter Lagos have managed just one victory in 10 matches, while Ranchers Bees are also searching for consistency after a difficult run of results. Both teams will view the fixture as an important opportunity to improve their survival prospects.
