The 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) enters the second phase of Matchday 6 on Sunday, with the early title race and battle at the bottom both gathering momentum..
Barau FC remain top after Sporting Lagos held them to a 1–1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday. Joseph Atule gave Barau the lead from the penalty spot before Sodiq Ayoade equalised for the hosts, extending the league leaders’ unbeaten start to six matches.
The result takes Barau to 12 points and leaves them at the summit, while the chasing pack now has an opportunity to reduce the gap.
Rivers United travel to Ranchers Bees looking to build on their emphatic 5–0 victory over Kun Khalifat in their previous outing. The Port Harcourt side will be aiming for another positive result to strengthen its position among the early pace-setters.
Defending champions Rangers are also on the road, facing Ikorodu City in Lagos. The Enugu club have made an unbeaten start and will look to maintain that momentum against an Ikorodu side seeking to make home advantage count.
Doma United, another unbeaten side, visit Katsina United after being held to a 2–2 draw by Plateau United last time out. Doma will be seeking maximum points to remain firmly involved in the early title race.
Elsewhere, Abia Warriors host Bendel Insurance, while Plateau United welcome Inter Lagos. Inter Lagos will enter the contest with renewed confidence following their recent victory over Enyimba.
At the other end of the standings, Enyimba face another difficult assignment against Kano Pillars at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The Aba giants are still searching for their first point of the season after a difficult opening. A result in Kano would provide a much-needed boost, but Pillars will be looking to capitalise on home advantage.
Kun Khalifat host Kwara United, Nasarawa United welcome Niger Tornadoes, while Warri Wolves take on Shooting Stars in the other fixtures.
With Barau having already completed their Matchday 6 assignment, Sunday’s results could reshape the chasing pack and bring further movement at the bottom of the standings.
